Reflection of your progress
-
My big stamp could've been a little better but I'm proud of my little one.
-
So far I'm very proud of my unfinished face
-
I love how my bowl is turning out. the way I can smooth it out and shape it is getting better.
-
I couldn't figure out how to wedge and it was drying out my clay. Mrs. Thompson demonstrated it to me and now I think I do it pretty well.
-
For the past few days, I've been failing at making my pinch pots. Today I finally went up to Mrs. Thompson to ask her what was wrong and why nothing is working no matter what. She told me that the clay was way too dry and to switch it out for fresh clay (the clay I was using was my other pinch pot) After I took her advice and to not handle it as much I finally got it to work.
-
I'm loving my work so far and I'm really proud how my pinch pots, star bowl, and otter are coming out.
Project-Star Bowl
-
I started with a fist sized amount of clay and spread it out with a rolling pin.
-
I slowly shaped it into a star and made it flower out.
-
I slowly smoothed it out with my hands and some water.
-
I created two stars on my platter/bowl and painted them pink and yellow.
-
It came out of the kiln and I glazed it purple and put clear glaze on the stars.
Planning
-
A shallow bowl with stars or strawberries or flowers on it.
-
A jewelry container
-
A mushroom
-
Cute little planters
-
An otter for the animal project
-
For my historic piece I will make The Star of David.
Project-Pinch Pot
-
I was having a lot of trouble at first figuring out how to properly make the pinch pots.
-
I thought I was doing good but in reality I was working with really dry clay and I handled to pots too much.
-
It dried out the clay even more.
-
Mrs. Thompson helped me and got me to figure out how to make the pinch pots.
-
It worked and I've seen a really big improvement.
-
I rolled out a thin length of clay and attached it to the sides of the two pinch pots where they were connected.
-
I then smooth it out form the outside and the inside with a sponge and some wood materials.
-
After I was happy with the shape I cut the top off to make a lid.
-
Once I smoothed out the edges I attached pieces to the Inside edges to stop the lid from falling off.
-
I finished up everything that needed to be done with the clay and began on the underglaze.
-
I finished the underglaze and put it on the rack to be fired.
-
When I got it back I realized that I did sommething wrong bc the top didn't fit on the base.
-
Turns out I had to set it on the base to be fired so it would work properly.
-
I scrapped the base and repainted the top and sent if off to be fired again.
Unit 1
Project-Animal
-
For my animal project, I am making an otter.
-
At first, I rolled some clay into a tube shape.
-
I formed a head shape and rolled the end into a tail shape.
-
I stuck four pieces of clay to it and shaped them into little flipper legs and feet.
-
I finished perfecting the overall shape and I smoothed it down with a paintbrush and water.
-
I finished shaping and smoothing it out so I did a lot of coats of underglaze.
-
I put it on the rack and I got it back a few days ago so I glazed it and now I'm waiting to get it back again.
