Unit 6

Progress:

Interesting Foot Piece

I started by rolling out some bravo buff clay on the machine, then I cut out a rectangle to make the shape of a mug. With the leftover clay, I cut out triangles to make the leaves and ripped the corners to make the petals. To make the foot I rolled a clay into a tube to make vines and another for the handle. I added leaves and flowers to them as well. I left it out over the weekend to dry so that I could come back and underglaze it.

Now that I've finished under-glazing it over the past few days, it's on the rack to be fired.  Once it came out of the kiln I clear-glazed it. Next time I need to make sure the glaze is layered evenly. DONE!

Whimsical House/Teapot

  • To start my teapot I made a giant pinch pot. I was so surprised I completed the pot successfully since I'm usually horrible at making them. Once I got my preferred shape I began smoothing edges and filling in thin spots. After that, I started adding the teapot part. I cut a hole in the side for the spout and added a thick handle. To get the whimsical house look I added two windows and a stone outlined wooden door. I even added vines with flowers to add to the look. Once I was done with underglazing I fired it. When it was done I clearglazed it and sent it to the kiln again. Next time I'd want a lighter purple for the flowers.

     Final Piece
Platter and Plates

Progress:

  • For my final pieces, I decided to make a pie dish and plates to go along with it. For my food, I'm making an apple pie. I didn't really have a plan for the glaze so I just went with what I thought would look good. Overall I think the pie dish came out okay but I wish the red weren't as bright. For my plates, I did a similar look which was cute but I made the mistake of not firing it first so in the end, the dish and the plates had different colors.
